Petticoat construction details

The petticoat
design consists of tiers and layers.
The petticoats have a considerable length of material
(about 5 feet) in the top tier. This means that
the waist size will accommodate all adult waists.
The elasticated waistband is adjustable over all size
ranges.
The tiers are the horizontal rows of net increasing
in fullness by a multiple of just over two, as the petticoat
descends.
The layers are the number of tiers on top of each
other.
The top tier, or basque, as it is sometimes
called, is normally made from a knitted stretch fabric
such as trilobal polyester, which is fine and soft to
the touch. It is not necessarily the same
colour as the net below it, but is always of a suitable
complimentary colour, since an exact match can never be
found.
The short length petticoat has 3 tiers and 2 layers, or
for more fullness 4 layers.
The longer length petticoat has 4 tiers and 2 layers,
or for more fullness 4 layers.
The longest length petticoat has 5 tiers and 2 layers,
or for more fullness 4 layers.
All the seams of the petticoat are sewn using 5 threads
with the raw seams overlocked.
In all cases the petticoat bottom tier of each layer is
finished with a similar colour or a suitably contrasting
colour as required.
For children, young teenagers or very small people we
need to be consulted, so that the petticoat is not too
full and the waist material length will be adjusted to
suit. For very large people there may be an extra charge.

Three
tiers from 19" up to 25". Preferred standard
is 23"
Four
tiers from 26" up to 35". Preferred standard
is 31"
Five
tiers from 34" up to 39". Preferred standard
is 35"
It should be remembered that the
length of any petticoat is an imprecise final measurement,
even with a tape measure, since the gathering means that
the exact length becomes indeterminate. It depends upon
whether it is measured inside or out, and how much the
net is pulled or straightened.

For other lengths, we are able to cut the net to a non
standard width, so the length/fullness/tiers/layers are
all infinitely variable to special order. There has to
be a small extra charge for the non standard lengths (widths
of cut net) that are not part of the three main categories
above, because the net will be cut to a width that can
only be used for that special order, so there is inevitably
some wastage of the net left over from the whole bundle,
that may not be used again.

The trim on the hem bottom of all the tiers may be self
colour or a colour of your choice. Please let us know
your preference.
Our suggested colours that look the best for black net
and white net are:-
Black with Pink Trim. Best.

Black with Black trim. Fourth.
White with Pink Trim. Best.
White with Red Trim. Second.
White with White Trim. Third.
